Sanitation Loans
MiCrédito, together with its partner Kiva, work to finance the construction and improvement of sanitation services in communities in Nicaragua that do not yet have adequate sanitation systems.
The sanitation project started in two cities of the country: Masaya and Estelí. In Masaya, the project impacted in the municipalities of Catarina, Niquinohomo and San Juan de Oriente. Regarding Estelí, in the municipalities of: San Juan de Limay, Condega and the northern sector of the city of Estelí.
Currently, after seeing the needs of not only building, but also improving the sanitary services of different communities and neighborhoods, the project was extended in the 12 branches nationwide, reaching 10 departments in Nicaragua, improving the quality of life of more than 4,000 people.
For the implementation of this project, the Municipal Development Committee and the Technical Committee have been created, who visit the communities to identify families without access to sanitary systems. The Technical Committees include architects and builders who provide technical advice to clients during the design and construction of the toilets.
